Firstly, you should always have a full glass or bottle of water on your desk. Often when you’re offered a snack in the office, you likely won’t actually be hungry, so when you’re drinking water throughout the day, you’ll know whether you’re actually hungry or just a bit bored and wanting a snack. Not only this, but being well hydrated has lots of benefits, from helping your body to digest food properly to keeping you feeling full, as well as reducing the risk of tooth decay. So, have water on your desk that you’re sipping on throughout the day and you’ll likely be less tempted to reach for unhealthy options.
Always Take Your Own Food To Work
Something else that you should do is always take your own food to work with you. When lunch time rolls around and you don’t have a nutritious meal with you, then you’ll likely reach for something that will make you feel sluggish in the afternoon, like a meal deal or a takeaway. Or, often healthy options on the go can be quite expensive, which may put you off and cause you to lean towards the cheaper, less nutritious options. So, instead, go to the shops on a Sunday and get some food that you can meal prep to eat throughout the week. This could be proper meals if you want, or just quick healthier options like high protein sandwich fillings to go on sourdough bread or pasta salads that will provide more nutritional value than the ones you buy in the shops!
Take High Protein and Fibre Snacks With You
Another good tip is to take high protein snacks with you. Foods that are high in protein and fibre naturally keep you full, plus they benefit your body short term and longer term. A sugary treat might give you short term satisfaction, however it won’t keep you full and you might keep craving more. When you replace this with a high protein or high fibre snack, it will keep you feeling satisfied throughout the whole afternoon ready for your evening meal. Again, this just takes a bit of preparation but can make a big difference!
