Skincare
As an athlete, with ongoing sweat and the skin being under duress, breakouts are much more common. Many of the athletes like to keep their skincare simple, with the likes of Natalia Grossman and Sha’Carri Richardson working with Olay and using their products to keep their skin well hydrated and cared for. Outdoor athletes including surfer Carissa Moore and volleyball player Alix Klineman have highlighted the importance of their sunscreen in their sports! Whilst all slightly different in terms of their routines, simplicity seems to be the common factor when it comes to skincare for olympic athletes to keep their skin glowing, hydrated and protected!
Nails
The most iconic olympic athlete when it comes to manicures has to be Sha’Carri Richardson, renowned for long, bold and bright nails that certainly don’t slow her down when competing. However, there were a whole host of stunning manicures throughout this year's Olympics. Some sports of course require shorter nails, whereas others are well suited to go for whatever style they want, helping to glam up their smart casual outfits! From Alex Sedrick’s short yet bright Olympic themed nails to Noah Lyles stars, crosses and lightning bolts, Sydney McLaughlin’s simple blue French tips and Mélanie de Jesus dos Santos’ simple pink extensions, the manicures impressed this year, that’s for sure.
Sweat-Proof Makeup
Many athletes embrace makeup, as a means of expressing themselves and feeling their best when they head out to compete. However, of course, the nature of competing comes with a lot of sweating, so the main thing that many athletes have in common is their use of setting powders and setting sprays! Lip tints and superstay lipsticks are also favourites, so they can apply and forget about it whilst they compete.
Something that so many people are curious about is how synchronised swimmers are able to maintain perfect makeup looks whilst literally underwater! As well as using gelatine in their hair to keep it in place, the perfect products need to be found in order to keep everything in place. Many athletes will swear by Makeup Forever for their waterproof mascara that never flakes, Benefit for lip and cheek stains and Wet N Wild waterproof eyeshadow sticks. The Makeup Forever Aqua Seal is also famous for its ability to seal makeup and protect it from budging when exposed to water.
Jewellery
Last but not least, we’ve got jewellery. Whilst by the end of the Olympics, many athletes will be leaving wearing gold, silver and bronze, that doesn’t mean they don’t show up and sparkle throughout the rest of the games. Keely Hodgkinson wore a stunning and meaningful silver charm necklace throughout the games, Noah Lyles wore his chunky diamond choker chain, Nyara Sabally wore a gold olympics grill on her teeth and Twanisha Terry beamed with her waist chains on. Cassandre Beaugrand also showed off a stunning ear stack, with the cutest solid gold earrings.
Miles Chamley-Watson also talked about how he wears his lab grown diamond necklaces and bracelets in order to express himself as a fencer, when he can only wear all white when he competes. Many athletes will wear watches too, particularly sprinters, however of course they won’t be checking the time to see whether they’re hitting their PB as they run. We can’t forget about Simone Biles iconic 3D goat pendant, with 546 handset diamonds, rumoured to be worth £50,000!
Final Thoughts
We’re all in agreement that Olympic athletes are spectacular and awe-inspiring, and of course their abilities are the main takeaway. However, it’s also pretty inspiring how much power and confidence they gain from the small touches to their glam routines. They’re showing people that they can express themselves and look and feel their best, whilst they proudly represent their country. Whether you take inspiration from the sweat and waterproof makeup or nail art, remember that competing and feeling your best can go hand in hand.
